Has Brodeur Lost His Olympic Starting Job?

Posted on February 22, 2010 | 6 Comments

Canada lost 5-3 yesterday to the USA. We shouldn’t be surprised – the US has been the better team in the tournament so far, despite Canada’s incredibly deep roster. Canada played well, but Ryan Miller was simply a much better goalie than Martin Brodeur.

In his two starts in the 2010 Olympics Brodeur has not been impressive. He has had moments of brilliance, but has also made key mistakes. I think it’s clear to everyone that he has not been at the top of his game.

Is the time ripe for a goaltending change? Admittedly he played the weakest opponent in Norway, but Roberto Luongo looked like a wall in his shut-out start. What would you do if you were Team Canada’s coach? Post your thoughts in the comments.

exactly we shouldn’t b surprised!!! I wanted us to win duh just every1 else! But literally its the Americans were talking about their just fricken natural born to winners shit it shows how their in first place now….. i h8 that…. nice were fourth but…. ya damn u states haha, ya know what Brodeur or a different goa…lie that’s also there now cud’ve made the same mistakes ya that One goal they shouldnt have had of course his legs totally just had that little bit where that usa guy just knocked it in as his back was faced the net brodeur shouldve done butterly move ya know like who knows like no one can say really….Like Miller for usa was fricken insane but yet at the end he said Brodeur did well for what he did and I believe that even tho its comin from the opposite team so with that no he wont loose it duh…. he wanted in and he’ll stay in plus i know we’ll kick Germanys ass anyways so what else is new…

K why compare goalies all of a sudden?:S What bout the actual players they count. I cud very much so say that Sidney crosby didn’t hit his “a game” either but he did what he did just like iginla, just like prongner yadayada etc. We loose but we move on if it wasn’t for mistakes being made there’s no mistakes being done to change things for the … See Morebetter. As with that I was more hoping for a 4-3 loss but they bumped it up higher… crummy I know sure but its not the last and after olympics is the actual NHL again were everything back to normal. We play hardcore hockey were born winners sure we don’t win all the time or as much as we want but we never try and doing that were true players and that’s what Martin Brodeur was doing…I saw his looks in his mask sure he’s not mr smiley duh… but he’s in net… he’s going and still is…. the devils loose games not necessarily b.c of him….. it just wasn’t meant for us to win… simple as that was what it was cudve been worse….

yea i think so brodeur let in that shot by rafalski to make it 2-1 usa and it was a crappy shot brian phanned on it and it was stupid and i think babcock should allow fleury to spread his wings and get some olympic experience because he will be a starter at the next olympics if the organization allows it and luongo should start against the russians cause germany wont become like switzerland and almost pull off the upset because they dont have grit and effort like the swiss did all i know is that i predict either the fins or sweden will beat the State for the gold and canada will win the bronze

Hey should retire and let the goalies of the future take over. This happened yesrs ago with Curtis Joseph being pulled for broduer and now its time for him to be pulled for Lulongo or Fluery.

No, Brodeur should still be the go-to man. He’s great under pressure unlike luongo, and proven unlike Fleury. Although Canada outshot the U.S. by a considerable margin, the scoring chances were more even. The entire Canadian squad played a lackluster game with the exception of the last few minutes. Sloppy passing, and Pronger, oh Pronger. The man is a big pylon.
With that being said, Brodeur should stay in. Team Canada will pick their game up, I think the loss will actually better their chances for a gold medal. The loss to the U.S. was a wake up call that fortunately happened in round robin play.
